Stereotypes in "The Simpsons".

Nelson Muntz the stereotypical bully?

The stereotypical bully in schools can be seen in the TV show "The Simpsons" where Nelson Muntz,  a student at Springfield elementary school has been  known for frightening pretty much everyone in the school but he mostly bullies, nerds and less popular kids like Milhouse  Van Houten.He has been known by that distinct laugh he does when someone is an awkward situation.  Nelson`s life at home is very harsh, his dad abandoned  him and ends up in prison while his mother has a cough drop addiction,(which sounds pretty funny). His role however is to be the antagonist of the TV show which he achieves with no problem at the beginning but in the end becomes one of Barts closest friends. Nelson is one of the supporting characters.
Basically, Nelson`s role is to bully and make fun of kids which he enjoys a lot considering he punches them for no reason or for barely any reasons, for example when he punches Milhouse.
I believe the role of a bully is very stereotypical to what we can imagine a bully being a schools, for example a none intelligent person making fun of nerds or unpopular kids which in my opinion is a pretty accurate representation of what a bully actually is.

what do you see when we say an Italian chef?

Luigi Risotto is an Italian chef in the TV show "The Simpsons". He owns his own restaurant and is a part of the mafia which is what we can see when we hear Italian. what I find funny is that he is an illegal immigrant because he left during his exam and never came back. Luigi Risotto is not the main character but he participates in a couple of episodes like "Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner".This character enjoys to cook food, especially pizza. All his characteristics describe what we would expect to see an Italian chef to be,even his name is a representation of the Italian pasta risotto.  

opinion

In  my opinion the TV show is very good and funny because it has a lot of exaggerations and has a distinct way of making things funny like Homer Simpson always messing up somehow. I think this type of stereotype is accepted because they want to dedramatize the situation of bullying in general and other stereotypes. do I think stereotypes should be banned? No not at all because it adds things we can all relate to which make you feel more into the movie or TV show. Plus it makes it hilarious in this case.There isn't always a positive affect for example people judge quicker on the appearance of others like if we see a girl with blond hair we automatically think she`s stupid which is a negative affect.

Conclusion 

During my research I have found it very interesting that the Simpsons is made up of a bunch of stereotypes because i never really watched the Simpsons.this is why my project is made of only Simpsons characters.
